another hot summer week

It’s been another super hot weekend but my mood seems to be much better.

Friday: Went to Bicho with the crazy dudes and would recommend anyone who likes Japanese BBQ skewers. They managed to grill it just right, very hot and crispy on the outside but still juicy on the inside.

Sat: Met up with two cut babies (and their moms) with Tessa. Dimsum & Megan were super active and I really enjoyed playing with them.

My day started beatifully when Tessa lugged over the Harry Potter box set. Thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks girl. Now I only need to grab book 6 then I would be extremely happy.

When I got home, I found a package from Tori…I love love love getting package and she gave me a little pressie too. I love you girl~~~~~~~

My beloved powerbook sleeves from Timbuk2. Why can’t we get something like this in Hong Kong?! Look at the outter pattern plus the corduroy lining. I am in heaven~~~~

Pressie from Tori…Muah!

Afterward, went out for mom’s birthday dinner (again) and saw Transformers. I think the plot is really not put together well but it is certainly a very entertaining movie with all the transforming and stuff :)

Sun: Had lunch at Wagyu with Steven, Gigi & Maria. Was kind of surprise how good it is. I am really happy that there are a lot more decent breakfast place in Hong Kong.

Did a portrait session for a couple in the afternoon and it was great fun (but hard work). Glad they are a really funny couples so dispite the heat we managed to pull it off.

Then finally sam & maria came over for dinner while chef koby prepared the very yummy dinner. And once again I’ve made the world best pavlova. Thanks Waisie who gave me this foolproof recipe.

n660550982_204169_4363.jpg

For anyone who’s interested to try, here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

4 ounces Castor Sugar (don’t forget to consult your friend Jamie Oliver for the conversions!)
4 egg whites (make sure threre is NO egg yolk!!)
1.5 teaspoons of Corn Flour
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
0.5 teaspoons of malt vinegar
strawberries/blueberries/raspberries(whatever fruit you like!)
whipping cream (enough to cover the top of the pavlova!i can’t remember how much was in that smal thing i got last time!)

1. Set the oven to gas mark 2 (although this was a bit too high for an electric oven, so maybe try gas mark 1.5- ask Jamie again)
1. Whisk half the sugar (2 oz) and the 4 egg whites together until stiff
2. Fold (or whisk) in the remaining sugar, corn flour, vanilla essence and vinegar until well mixed in.
3. Put mixture onto baking tray and bake in the oven for 45-60 minutes. Do not open the oven during this time
4. When the time is up, turn off the oven and leave the pavlova inside for about 20-30 minutes and then remove onto a cooling rack
5. Whip the cream until the desired texture and cut up the fruit for the topping.
6. Deocrate the pavlova (using the pipe for the cream if you like la!) and serve! =)

harry potter and the deathly hallows

After 8 years, I’ve finally finished reading the Harry Potter story. To be honest as the story progressed it actually got more and more complicated and serious which I think had lost the charm of the first few books. Nevertheless, it was such an exciting feeling to see the end. Tho I feel a hint of sadness too. Such mixed feeling.

I literally spent most of my Macau get-away weekend on reading. Thank god Bko was exhausted by the overnight poker game (and I am sure it is ALSO because he’s an understanding husband who knew how much I wanted to read that damn book haha) Lucky that we also got a really nice suite at the Wynn so bko was also relaxing.

Here are some pictures for the weekend:

Got my book at 8:20am before the ferry. Was literally grinning from ear to ear…world seems like such a better place for no particular reason.

We’ve got a suite that came with a huge living room (and a huge bathroom plus a massage room for in room massage…wow!)

STILL reading hp…

For those of you who doesn’t bother to read the book but would like to find out more, go to wikipedia because they already had a book summary. Also, they have a wealth of info like an encyclopedia on the story where me and another hp fanatic friend went to refresh our memories for the previous book. Fascinating!

I am melting…

it’s been freakin’ hot for the last month and I am on the verge of dying. I found that my tolerance for high temp is really non-existent. The moment I stepped outside the door, the moment I started breaking into a sweat. Gosh! I just hate that feeling.

Maybe you would suggest a trip down the beach but when 300millions people having the same idea, it’s not fun anymore. Argggggh!!!!

No mood to write so here’s a few pictures on what’s been going on:

Time to give it a push

Been thinking a lot lately about what’s next? (hence the slow update) and I am blaming it on quarter/mid life crisis. Got to a stage where I really need to define the road ahead. Time to walk outside the comfort zone and be adventurous but NOT that adventurous. Long gone the day where I would quit, then soul searching later:P

Bko got me a dream lens yesterday – the 85/1.4 which completed my collection. Thanks for the push :) And you are right all the expensive ones are from you hehehehehe Thanksssssssssssssssss Will strive strive strive. Btw, I am really falling for prime lens lately because they are just so much better than zoom. The ones to pay attention are 35/2, 50/1.4 & 85/1.4. It’s THAT yummy! And dad also gave me a telelens for the Leica collection. You guys are just sooooooo sweet!

I am currently trying to push myself a bit and getting into the world of lighting (horror). As a natural light shooter this is a big step (almost like walking on the moon). So far it’s been rather interesting and I can’t wait to try it in real life this sat. Btw, if you are interested to find out more on this topic, check out Strobist.com.

Been really slacking off from yoga because my favorite instructor left. Yet I can feel all the twisting on my shoulder & back that screams: I need a nice stretch! I am really looking forward for the new instructor because apparently my favorite classes are Ashtanga & Shivananda. Thinking of diversifying my exercise variety and swimming would be the next thing to look at. Hmm…maybe I should get back into wakeboarding or something.

Some photos from my phone:

Getting my breakfast at McDonald’s has never been so interesting. Look at the Shrek’s ears headgear the staffs are wearing makes me think that my job is not that bad afterall :P On second thought maybe it’s good to get one for halloween. Btw, they are trying to run this “no straw” day once every month but apparently a lot of the customers were not getting the idea and demanded straw in a very annoyed manner. *frantically pushing the straw releasing button when clearly it’s empty* “Tsk! How come there’s no straw!!!” Come on people, cavemen could manage it so can you!
